Since the adoption of the three bins and a basket system our waste to landfill has reduced dramatically. In two years Burnside reached the top of the league table with a 62% diversion from landfill. It is expected that this will reach 70% in the next year or so making us the first council to achieve the state target.

And it saves us money too. The cost of waste to landfill has increased substantially over the last couple of years but we are paying less each year. The whole project was funded with the proceeds of a land sale to Burnside Village which had been sitting in an account for some years. So nothing to borrow, money to save and a long term contribution to our environment. Thank you all for making this initiative work.
