This site at the Greenhill Road end of Conyngham Street was originally part of a farming area and has been a working depot since the 1940s. Part of it was used as a furniture factory and warehouse until 1969 when it too became part of the Council Depot.
It has always been an under-utilised piece of land and a better use for the site has been discussed since the early 2000s. This year the Council resolved to re-develop the site as a community space while still keeping part of the land as a depot. Work will begin early next year on a Men’s Shed, a community garden and a biodiversity nursery. The master plan was developed as a result of community consultation and I hope many of you will be participants when the site is open at the end of 2019.
