I have always been a firm believer in keeping rates as low as possible and am happy to report that in the 12 years I have been a councillor, our rates have been among the lowest in Adelaide.
Recent cost of living pressures have affected us all so it is even more important to monitor our finances to give our residents and ratepayers the best value for money.
It’s a balance between need and want and because of our excellent long-term financial plan we are still able to undertake major works (like the Conyngham re-development) while keeping rates low. Our budget process relies on community engagement and this year nearly 500 people responded. This, along with the professionalism of staff and the goodwill of elected members means the people of Burnside get value for their rates. Long may it continue.
